What I found there confirmed that this betrayal went much deeper than I had imagined. The messages between Jackson and Caroline went back more than six months. Six months full of good morning, beautiful and I can’t stop thinking about you.

Six months of carefully orchestrated plans to meet when I was not around. Six months of laughing about how clueless I was, how easy it was to deceive me. “Josephine is so naive,” Caroline had written.

“I think we could do it in the living room and she wouldn’t notice.”

“That’s what I love about you,” Jackson had replied. “You’re the opposite of her—adventurous, spontaneous, fun.”
