“You should’ve told her we got her a gift.”
Walter smiled. “Why ruin the surprise?”
I cooked for half the day.
Beatrice arrived early, dressed like she was attending a gala, carrying wine and wearing that same smooth smile.
She kissed Walter on the cheek, then turned to me.
“Settling into married life, Elena? It can be quite an adjustment.”
