Under the new framework, however, USPS would assume a far more active role. The Postal Service would receive voter-list data directly from states, track ballots throughout the delivery process, and determine whether election mail meets federally mandated standards.
There is some concern about whether the USPS can build the required infrastruction in time for the fall elections, which are about 5 months away. Some states will begin mailing out ballots 60 days ahead of Election Day.
